Application:
Flow Measurement of the Heating Station
Requirements:
Looking for High-Temperature, High-Pressure, and Waterproof Flow Meters.
Measurement requirements
To ensure reliable winter heating for an aging residential area, three new heating stations have been established. Each station requires the installation of three flow meters to accurately measure the flow in both the primary and secondary water distribution networks. Due to the elevated temperatures within the pipeline system, the flow meters must be designed to withstand high-temperature conditions. Additionally, given the frequent occurrence of negative pressure during maintenance or unforeseen incidents in the supply network, the meters must be equipped with robust negative pressure resistance to ensure reliable operation under such circumstances.
Our Solution
To meet these requirements, the Metlan team developed a tailored solution based on the customer’s site conditions. By considering the pipeline’s diameter, temperature, and flow range, the appropriate flow meters were selected to ensure measurement accuracy and stability.
For flow meter selection, Metlan recommended electromagnetic flow meters. Taking into account that the primary network is designed for supply temperatures of 130°C and return temperatures of 70°C, F46 liners were chosen. For the secondary network, designed for supply temperatures of 80°C and return temperatures of 60°C, PTFE liners were selected. Since the circulating water is single-component and non-corrosive, 316L electrodes were used. Additionally, considering the insufficient sealing of heating stations, where condensation can occur due to the meeting of indoor and outdoor air, flow meters with an IP67 protection rating were selected to ensure stability and durability.
Products used
Magnetic Flow Meter for Water and Wastewater (MTF-W)
This electromagnetic flowmeter is great for basic water and wastewater applications, with a wide diameter range and wear resistant liner materials. Installation in measurement chambers subject to looding is possible with the IP68 rated version.
Benefits
- Improved Accuracy: Metlan electromagnetic flow meters have an accuracy of 0.5%, whereas flow meters on the market typically have an accuracy between 3-5%. Based on customer requirements, we can achieve an accuracy of 0.2%. Each flow meter is calibrated and assigned a unique serial number corresponding to all calibration data. The calibration equipment meets the national standard JJG 164-2000.
- Cost Savings: Precise measurement, reduced errors, improved billing accuracy, and avoidance of revenue loss.
- Customization: Flow meters can be customized according to actual working conditions and environmental requirements, such as the lining and electrodes, ensuring the flow meter is suitable for specific environments and operates stably over the long term.
Currently, the heating station systems are undergoing commissioning. Metlan products have demonstrated stable performance during testing, ensuring the accurate collection of data from the heating stations. In the early stages, Metlan staff actively supported site surveys, provided solutions, and offered training for station personnel on instrument operation and maintenance. On-site instrument personnel provided positive feedback, praising Metlan’s excellent service quality, strong product consistency, ease of maintenance, and improved operational efficiency.
